DHS Agencies
Merrick has a strong history of performing professional services for the DHS and its predecessor agencies. The firm is currently a key member of and responsible for the design of all animal facilities as part of the JV design team selected for the DHS/FLETC $450M+ National Bio-Agro Defense Facility (NBAF). This assignment leverages Merrick’s past legacy of performance and success in the design and commissioning of high-containment biological and agricultural laboratories. When completed, the NBAF will be a state-of-the-art homeland security asset in bio-defense and bio-safety for the US, and will replace the antiquated Plum Island, New York, laboratory complex providing state-of-the-art BSL-2, -3, and -4 laboratory, research, and administrative capabilities.

Having designed the NORTHCOM homeland security addition to the NORAD HQ after the events of 9/11, Merrick is working to secure the southern U.S. border and is providing both professional A-E design of border control facilities as well as geospatial services to support FEMA and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).

OCONUS

Merrick supports a number of key homeland security missions and for U.S. clients outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS).

• Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA)
  Merrick is supporting the DTRA mission to safeguard America and its allies from the threat of nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons of mass destruction (WMD), thereby enhancing the security of the US and the world’s citizens. In support of the current multi-year DTRA Bio-Threat Reduction Program, Merrick is providing A-E consulting and related services for the design and development of BSL-2 and BSL-3 Laboratories, as key parts of the DTRA Threat Agent Detection and Response (TADR) system of bio-laboratories and disease surveillance systems in Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan.

• Department of State/Department of Defense
  Under several US Government programs, Merrick is providing innovative aerial remote sensing technology development to support counter proliferation, counter drug, or detection and interdiction activities for maritime and jungle environments. This has included obscure target sensing, detection, and discrimination for programs in Asia and Latin America.
